Newsletter March 2024
We have had another successful gathering of The Russett School Alumni.
Ex-pupils were invited to The Orchard on the 21st March and we had a great response. The morning was supported by pupils from Oak class, who very kindly offered to cater for the Alumni. They waited on us, offering refreshments that included home baked banana bread and choclate cake.
As always our Alumni were a source of incredibly vivid memories and anecdotes of their time at The Russett, both funny, and moving. A poignant moment was when Raymond said, 'hey, guys, do you all remember Gareth and his music sessions?'
There was a flurry of replies, 'yes,' said Zoe, 'I used to sing with Gareth,' and spontaeously burst into song!
We were also joined by Connor and his mum. Connor was a school leaver in 2023 and is doing very well at Warrington Vale Royal College. He is studying maths, english and computer strudies. Connor visited Oak class and caught up with his old buddies, Louis, Glyn, Patrick and Michael. What a great reunion!
Memories
We continued on our trip down memory lane and we asked each alumni, 'what do you remember about your time at school?'
Raymond - Panto, going to see Scrooge at the theatre in Liverpool and Mrs Wood's sensory calendar.
Jake - Swimming.
Zoe - The fashion show and appearing in the panto.
Dan - Kwik cricket.
Ollie - Mr Brothwood's class and singing in the panto.
Aaron - Wednesday morning swimming at Sir John Deane's and the panto.
Reece - Residentials at Anglesey, the zip wire, and playing a dame in the panto with Mark.
Connor - Being in the play, Romeo and Juliet in room 9. Louis was Romeo and Mrs Hughes was Juliet. He also remembered appearing on Northwich radio with Adam.
We all loved PANTO!
The running theme through all of this was the panto....So at our next get together, I will try to source videos of the many pantos that were produced by Mr Brothwood and his team and we will have a panto viewing session.
