WELCOME TO Holly CLASS
Holly is a happy class of 12 LKS2 learners whose learning activities are delivered through a multi-sensory approach. The children’s learning is supported through a variety of creative and motivating resources and lots of hands on fun, activities. To promote and support the children’s communication skills, we adopt a total communication approach in the classroom including the use of makaton, symbols and objects of reference.
The Holly team are Jess, Philly, Alisha, Charlotte and Porsche. Our topic this term is Our Senses.
This term our Coastal Learners are exploring a range of topics and learning through motivating activities which offer opportunities to practice skills including anticipation, participation, communication of preferences and making requests. They are enjoying regular sessions in the sensory room, sensory stories, attention autism sessions and intensive interaction sessions.
Our Countryside learners are developing their skills in communication, social interaction, functional literacy, numeracy, understanding of the world, independence and self-help skills. .
Reading in Holly – For Holly, sharing books and reading is the first activity of the school day. This promotes the children’s imagination, their curiosity for the world they live in, supports their communication skills and is fun! Our focus texts in English this term are The Owl Who Was
Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson and Snowball By Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. The pupils are exploring these stories though activities promoting their listening skills, writing and anticipation of what might happen next.
Each day the pupils participate in streamed phonics sessions to support their independent reading.
