Annual Reviews – Information for Parents and Carers
What does the phrase “Annual Review” mean?
Cheshire West and Chester Council & Cheshire East Council must review an Education, Health and Care Plan annually. The phrase “Annual Review” refers to the whole process, rather than just the review meeting.
The first review will take place within a year of an Education, Health and Care Plan being issued and will continue on an annual basis thereafter.
These meetings can be held at school or virtually. You will be asked each year what you prefer, the choice is yours.
You will be invited to attend and engage in the meeting. The format is very different to a parents evening meeting and follows a set agenda.
What will be reviewed?
Do I need to prepare?
You will receive all paperwork via SchoolPing prior to the meeting. We ask that you please read the paperwork and come prepared to the meeting ready to:
- Discuss and look to agree targets set for next year
- State if you feel The Russett School is still the right place for your child
- If your child is in Year 5: Discuss options for secondary placement and state where you would like your child to attend from Year 7.
- If your child is in Year 10: Discuss options and thoughts for post Russett placement. This can be requested for 11, 12, 13 or 14. You will be asked what year your child wishes to leave Russett and state a preference during the meeting.
Will an Education, Health and Care Plan be amended each year?
No – following the review meeting, Cheshire West and Chester Council will decide whether to amend, maintain or cease the plan.
Early and Interim reviews
Although the Council reviews plans on an annual basis, a review can be called at any time if required for example; if requesting a change of school setting. These are often referred to as an Early or Interim review. If you think an early review should take place, you can discuss this with school.
Other forms of reporting to parents & carers:
- Evisense: We report progress on a frequent basis via Evisense. You can log in and view all the lovely thing your child does in school. Please contact the office if you need a log in
- Parents & Carers Evenings: Held twice a year in Autumn Term and in Summer Term. You can choose a face to face appointment or a phone call.
- End of Year Reports: Sent out at the end of the academic Year (July)
